  지난주 금요일에 SBS의 Seoul Digital Forum에서는 Free Culture의 저자이자 Creative Commons의 창시자인 Stanford의 Lawrence Lessig교수의 강연이 있었습니다. Lessig은 "Lessig Method"라고도 불리는 효과적인 프리젠테이션으로 유명합니다. 사실요즈음 회사내에서 만들어지는 Powerpoint 자료들을 보면, 형식적이고 타성에 젖은 발표자료들을 많이 접하곤 합니다.Powerpoint에 Point도 없고 Power도 없는, "Powerpoint - power - point =Nothing!!"인 자료들이죠. 프리젠테이션에서 Audience가 하나의 장표마다 효과적으로 전달받을 수 있는 메세지는 한문장또는 한 문구 정도이고, 이처럼 프리젠테이션을 만드는 것이 정답이겠지만 대부분 빽빽이 보고서 스타일의 프리젠테이션을 양산해내는것이 현실입니다. 몇가지 혁신적인 발표 자료들은 아래의 링크에서 볼 수 있습니다.
  이번 강연의 주제는 Read Wirte Culture와 Read Only Culture에 대한 내용이었습니다. 이전의 Free Culture에서도 언급된 내용이었지만 Digital이전 시대의 문화는 creative한 생성물들의 "Unregulated Use"를 통해다양하게 재창조되는 문화였고, Copyright라는 제한된 영역의 법적 보호를 통해 Publishing을 제한함으로써 창작자의권리를 지키고 창작활동이 지속되도록 하였습니다. 창작물은 그 속성 자체가 Common의 영역에 속하고 있었다고 할 수 있죠.그러나, Digital이라는 기술의 발전을 통해 기존에 Mass production을 통해 수익을 얻던 주체들의 Business Model이 손쉬운 Copy로 위협 받으면서 이를 지키기위해 제한된 영역에서의 Copyright를 모든 창작물에 대해적용함으로써 "Unregulated Use"는 사라지고 모든 것들이 "Regulated Use"가 되고 맙니다. 또한,Copyright의 언저리에 있던 "Fair Use" 마저도 사라지게 되어 Creativity는 본래 과거의 것들의 모방으로부터시작된다는 믿음에 근거해보면 인간의 창조적인 문화 활동에 제약이 생기게 된 것입니다. 하지만, Remix라고 부르건 Mashup이라고 하건간에 기존의 것들을 이용하여 새로운 문화를 창조하려는 노력은 Grey Album의 예와 같이 무수히 많이 존재합니다.


  Creative Commons의 존재 이유도 제한적인 Copyright의 한계를 벗어나 창작자가 그의 창작물에 대한 권리와 재사용 등에 대한 권한을 부여함으로써 새로운 Creative한 활동이 계속될 수 있도록 하는, Read Write Culture를 위한 도구로서의 의미가 있다고 하겠습니다. Copyright와 관련하여 여러 분야가 있겠지만 작년부터 계속 이슈가 되고 있는것이 Google의 Book Search입니다.
